We were delighted to be part of ITB Berlin NOW, the travel industry’s largest digital meet-up, last week. The 4-day event was attended by 65,700 visitors from 120 countries. Some 700 speakers and industry thought-leaders shared industry best practices, forecasts, and visions for the future during over 400 discussion rounds.
The industry shared the view that the current form of tourism is unsustainable. Negative externalities caused by mass tourism, such as environmental costs, social costs, and human costs of economic activity, are not being accounted for, and are bringing irreversible negative impacts to the world.
Travelers of the future will be traveling more consciously, intentionally, and will demand a more sustainable travel experience. As we Build Back Better, let’s focus on building a new “low carbon, resilient, circular, SDG-focused” tourism model, and create equitable and sustainable travel for all.
